Awesome really appreciate it... I took the kids out today and we zeroed on cats.... Luckily I caught a few bass to let them reel in.... What kinda bait would I use? And I hear a lot about chum... Would I need that to catch them or just bait? Thanks

Best chum is soured wheat... There ,was a bait shop Lake View Inn, with gas, a motel, rv spot, and served breakfast they also sold 5gal buckets of wheat and punch bait.... If the soured wheat is unavailable try range cubes ( cow feed )

Best bait out there is cut bait. Nice hearty chunks.

You can make yourself some doughbait.

Go to Wal-Mart (or some other store that has tackle in it). Find a bag of powdered catfish "Chum". It just says Chum and it has pictures of catfish on it. It's a red powder inside a blue and white stripped bag. Buy some Wheaties. (Which is pure wheat cereal), Big Red, and white enriched flour. Pour the whole bag chum into a container. Crush up the box of Wheaties, pour the whole box in, add some big red to get it all wet. knead it all. add flour in a cup at a time. Keep adding flour and big red until it turns into a stiff dough. Let it sit in the refrigerator for a while so the Wheaties will soften.

Buy some treble hooks too, You don't need the very large ones there are some that will hold a dough ball perfectly I think they are #4 size. I got the red kind.

Use a plastic measuring spoon -1 tablespoon size- to make perfect doughballs with.
To use the dough balls without falling apart fold the string down the side of the treble hook. Insert the dough ball through the eyelet stem of the hook and push down so the bottom of the dough sets on the treble hook. Pull the string up slowly and "slice/cut" through the doughbait. Gently message the dough so it will close the area where you pulled the string.

If you don't get a bite on this bait then there aren't any catfish there!

You can add garlic powder, anise oil, or vanilla extract to it.

Adding vanilla extract and strawberry soda instead of Big Red will get you carp bites as well.

You can just make the doughbait with a bag of "Chum", strawberry soda, and bread slices. It takes about a loaf or two to get the dough stiff enough.

I added crushed garlic powder to mine. Caught a cat on every cast.
