New - either a New Combo or New Reel and New Rod that be bought for $50 total ( not counting tax) - give links.

I gotta go with $24.99 Qauntum Optix on a $24.95 Meat Hunter 2 pc MH 8' Rod.

I started off the year with 4 of those Quantum Optix by mid summer I had just one that works i put the penns back on and my old mitchell 300s back on the mitchell might be from the 60's but the work like a champ a person can go on eBay get those old mitchell for between 9-15$ and they will last for ever for drifting i have really like the Ryobi reels as well. the 6000 is very well made i think i paid like 25$ each from my sister inlaw out of thailand they might be made in china now but they are a great reel i took one apart after a full us from spring to just a few weeks ago and it looks like new i have 2 4000 series i like putting braid on it for channels. quit a few guys want to know were to get them. they are a pretty smooth and stout real

I love the Mitchell reels... You can get an Advocet silver 4000 for about 30$... I've caught red drum up too a 22lb blue all on 12lb test. Drag works great on these reels and no sign of slowing down...
Great reel for the price! The 300 pro is no let down either for the extra money.

I've had a few Quatum Optix 60's going on 4-5 years now - no issues. Have caught Teens, 20's,30's and occassional low 40's Lbrs on these no issues. ( mostly teens tho).

For rod holders on a boat, this is an inexpensive rig that works great.

Academy Shimano FX 7 foot for 12.99.

Shakespeare Tidewater 37.99 at Walmart. The Tidewater has a great clicker and a big handle. Does a good job on Big Fish. It isn't great for long casts though. In a rod holder on my boat, they do the trick for right at $50.
