Has anyone caught any crappie on lake Ray Roberts that look like a white crappie, but have a very black stripe on top from the tip of the top lip to the tail? I don't have a picture, but I have caught 2-3 of them. I will take a picture of the next one.

Yes, I had several times. It's like a Mohawk. Quite interesting.

We call them racing stripe crappie. They are getting to be pretty common.

Yep, they are black crappie with a genetic trait for the stripe. Google Mohawk Crappie and there is an article written about Crappie that discusses them by a TPWD Biologist from Jasper.... Its a good read!

And welcome to TFF

Y'all are all wrong. The Crappie with the black stripe are ones Earnest Paty caught but we're too small. He keeps a black sharpie in the boat and marks them so everyone knows they're his. Ain't that right Ernest? roflmao

I believe Ernest also gave them the name 'mohawk'. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
