September Update:
Evaporation for September = 8.60 inches, which equals about 17,676 acre-feet.
Water Released Downstream for Cities by the SRA for September = 627,658,040 gallons or 1,926.2 acre feet or about 0.078 feet taken off the lake.
Water Pumped by Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) for September = 2,661,540,000 gallons or 8,168 acre-feet or about 88.7 million gallons per day. This equals about 0.33 feet or about 3.96 inches of water removed from the lake.
So, again evaporation is by far the major source of water loss for Lake Fork in September, but DWU continued to increase pumping. DWU pumped about 73 million gallons per day in August compared to the 88.7 million gallons per day pumped in September.
Year To Date Through September
Evaporation for the Year Through September = 59.55 inches or 4.96 feet or about 122,338 acre-feet.
Water Released Downstream by the SRA for Cities Through September = 5,204.6 acre-feet.
Water Released by the SRA Through the Flood Gates when the Lake was Over Full this Spring = 94,155.5 acre-feet.
DWU Water Pumped for the Year through September = 39,477 acre-feet. (Note: DWU is entitled to pump 131,000 acre-feet, so it appears they will be well under that for 2015).
So for the year about 261,175 acre-feet of water left the lake through evaporation, releases and pumping, which is about 10.6 feet of water. Thanks to inflow from storm water runoff earlier this year the lake is currently at about 2.17 feet below full pool. The surface area of the lake is currently at 24,665 surface acres. At full pool the lake is 27,690 surface acres.
As the lake continues to recede it becomes even more important that the forecasts for above normal precipitation this winter hold true.
