The perchs always seem to bite off the eyes on my jigs . Is there a way to keep those stick-on eyes from coming off .?. Thanks

Most of the adhesive on eyes, stick on or 3D, is not too good for the long haul. It takes a little time, but I place a small dot of locktite super glue gel before placing an eye on. The gel, as opposed to regular super glue is pretty easy and clean to use. Lots of folks coat the head and eye with a sealant, like Sally Hanson's Tough as Nails, but for me the super glue gel is faster and doesn't leave an odor.

The best I have ever came across is vinyl top coat. Since I only do a few jigs now I get it at Barlow's and the 4 oz. about 10.00 dollars. It will do a lot of jig heads, but sure later they will be some that use things will get on here. I also use some seal-coat in both reg. and UV blast on dark jigs. They are about the same price. Don't think I have ever had a eye come off with any of them.

Both ways are good, but don't count on just Sally Hensons because it will make your Chart heads look really bad! The clear vinyl is really good stuff and will not change the colors, plus it's tougher than powder paint when it dries completely. You can dip the entire head or get an artist brush and paint it on, what ever you want to do.
I like the Gel super glue as well. But also like the Locktite brush on super glue so kind of pick your poison!

I have to add I bought a bunch of eyes, but can't seem to like using them
so I went back right away to no eyes and really don't believe they matter IMHO! On my Roadrunners I just put a Black dot of vinyl for that. I do have some 1/16 Roadrunner heads that have the recent eyes so still dealing with what I want to do with them. Also not sure I have the eyes that fit that socket best! The 3mm seem okay, but I sure would like to try some 2 mm ones, but only have 3 mm and larger, LOL! About right huh?

Skip, check with Sam Wang at Liflies. His email is fly2fishing@gmail.com . I think he has some 2mm & 2.5mm eyes that might work.

Steve, I don't use glue but its because I am always leaving top off and stuff like that. Here we use a lot of plastic jigs and that might be good for gluing the front of them to back of jig head. Nice of you to post.

I've always had a problem with the stick on eyes and my solution was a to dip the heads in GST let them flash (get tacky) only takes a few seconds then place the eye and press down with then end of a dowel. Let dry overnight then dip again in the GST. To seal the eye.

Recently I remade my jig turner and already have plans for a final version. I use D2T a lot on cranks and various plugs as well as some larger jigs that I airbrush. The airbrush paints are not overly durable so topcoating in necessary. I've tried everything but have settled on Etex Lite and Devcon 2-ton epoxy (D2T). Both benefit from a whirl on the dryer/turner and Etex because it dries so slow it is almost mandatory. I can apply the eyes, press in place then brush on a topcoat of the epoxy. Put it on the drying wheel overnight and coating is clear and uniform. After a couple days to fully cure, both are hard as rocks and I've yet to damage the epoxy coatings.

The D2T is kinda thick but can be thinned with denatured alcohol or acetone, I prefer alcohol as the odor is negligible and it does not dry as fast so gives a little more pot life. Nice thing about D2T is it comes in a self dispensing tube and after a few trial and error sessions, you learn to minimize your waste ---- A little goes a long way.

I've been told the D2T yellows a bit with age, but I usually loose my lures long before that happens. On the plus side, it is available at many hardware/home improvement stores as well as many chain discount stores. Shelf life is excellent and it is very convienient to use, store and to procure.
