Looking at buying a 2001 champion 187. Has a Mercury xr6 150. Anyone that's owned one, or fished out of one that can tell me some of the pros and cons would be appreciated thanks

Before purchasing have the transom checked out, "sound" every inch of it from top to bottom. if you can sound the transoms inside surface do it too.

Every tap sound be distinct and crisp ringing sound, any "thud" or lower tone could be wet material.

I have a 2001 187,
cons , are the fastback hull will take water into the boat if you shut down from plane without "feathering power. (a holeshot plate will actually correct this)

the live well/bilge switches are placed so that your lifejacket will unintentionally
turn them on. (right side by your leg ) (move the livewell switches higher on the panel)

that's it , the rest of the boat is a great/ handling/ riding / with a big front deck.

Owned a 2001 Champion 181 for 7 years. Loved it, just sold it last week. Great rough water boat. It's carpet is better than on the 2009 I just bought.

it's much more important than that!
