I am reorganizing my boat and have always sorted out my crankbaits by depth. I have noticed that some of the elites and FLW guys sort theirs by color.

I am wondering what the other average joes are doing.

I always sort mine by depth/style. It doesn't make sense to me why someone would sort them by color

Hybrid of both, with a deciding factor being how many I have

Smaller topwaters in one box
Bigger topwaters in one box
Wake baits in one box
Jerk baits in one box
Lipless crankbaits and squarebills are in four boxes (two for clearer water, one heavily stained water, one red/orange colors)
Mid depth crankbaits are in three boxes (one clearer water, one for heavily stained, one red)
Deep divers in three boxes (one for clearer water, one heavily stained, one red)

I store my squarebills in one box and every bring else in another. I sort my squarebills by size (1.5s, 2.5s, etc). And I sort my other cranks by diving depth

I throw them in a box with other crankbaits and dig through them later.
I try to keep them separated by depth but it never works out.

Do you have a box for each size square bill?

I organize on depth, problem is, there are multiple depth columns.

  • From wake baits to 22+ divers stuffed in another

Need more boxes

Top water in one box
Lipless one box
Jerk baits one box
Square bills one box
Deep crank baits one box
Medium crank baits one box
Shallow crank baits one box
Norman crank baits one box
Jigs one box

I mark the depth just before the bill on the underside of the lure with a small sharpie

I converted this year. I've always done it by depth but mine are arranged by color now and I really like it.
