Just happened to be out fishing for sandies on Granger this Saturday. Unable to locate surfacing schools or bottom schools on the graph, we were reduced to trolling likely areas. On one rod we had a #2 mepps and on another rod we had a mepps clone, the 'Roostertail' brand from Walmart in about the same size.

The mepps beat the Roostertail 7 to 1.

Mepps is proud of their stuff, over $4 vs. $1.40 for the Roostertail. But, it sure does outperform the clones.

In my opinion it really depends on what the predominant bait fish are where you fish. In lakes that have a large population of ghost minnows, white or silver rooster tails will work just as well or better than other in line spinners.
I have used lots of different spinners and one has out fished the other on different lakes. Just my observation.
