Whitney to 2114 - How Long? #11127438 09/25/15 07:01 PM

I'm thinking I'd like to kayak/flyfish from the Whitney dam to the FM2114 bridge.

But I'm wondering how long of a trip that would be when the water is low like it is now? I want to fish my way down, not just paddle. The kayak is there for transportation from fishing spot to fishing spot and not the main attraction.

I'm thinking that the distance is long enough that I might not have time to fish much if I want to complete the trip before dark. I'm prone to fish a good spot for several hours if the fish are biting.

Therefore I'm asking those of you who've made the trip, how long does it take and how much fishing do you get to do in the process?

Thanks!
Lloyd

Well, if you wanted to paddle more than fish it would only be 4-5 hours. Last time I did it, we started at sunrise and done by 2:30. Caught plenty of fish, stopped at a couple spots. You could spend all day going down and taking your time.

I fish below Lake Whitney dam and only fish a mile or two downstream and then fish back to the truck. I would be interested in making the trip to FM 2114 this fall and provide a shuttle from FM 2114 or to the dam.

It's 8 miles. Can take as long as you want to fish...

Thanks guys - just got back from a week of pneumonia. I thought my recliner had become surgically attached.

I'll make that trip one of these days, but I'm most afraid that I'll get to fishing and forget to paddle and realize I'm 7 miles from home only when I hear the coyotes. :-)
