Bad luck or an oppertunity that some will never have. Saturday morning while fishing the BLT Championship I hooked a good fish that ended up being a 4.68 when I got her to the boat there was a one some bigger trying to take the bait out of its mouth, my partners saw it also as he was about to net mine, that was pretty cool but it gets better, maybe! About an hour later we make another pass where this happened, I pitch my bait up in this great looking spot and it was like you flushed a toilet the water was just sucked down, well I set the hook and can tell its what I think and feels like a giant, now I'm lucky enough to have caught a DD and know it's a good one. I finally get her turned and she comes about a foot out of the water, I'm shocked, my partner is like OMG, I feel I'm doing everything right but after seeing her who knows, she make another run and all of a sudden it's over, I reel in and she has bent a 5.0 Gamakatsu hook, I know more drag but let's just say it's thick. After getting to see her I can't say how much she weighed but know she was bigger than my DD that was 10 plus. At this point I'm shaking and actually thought I was going to throw up! So I ask is it just bad luck that I lost her or a great oppertunity at the fish of a life time that just got away. The fish gods give the fish gods take away...

bad luck. Most of us have had the "one that got away" moment...it's what keeps you coming back and trying again. No different then the golfer that hits the pin on a par 3 and gets close to a Hole in One....
However, if you are like me...you will be re-thinking hook brand!!!! LOL Great story bud. Hope you get another opportunity!

i wouldn't call it bad luck; there is a certain amount of luck involved from the moment you hook a giant to getting her in the boat. so many variables come into play that aren't there with a smaller fish. and as stated before, they don't get that big by being easy to catch.

Bad luck or an opportunity? I would say both great to have the opportunity to hook a fish that big.And bad luck not landing it. Makes for a great memory, fish story. At least you the area where the fish lives and the bait it likes. The next cast could be the one.

North side on a point near deep water! LOL Agree, I've wanted to go every evening after work! Up until 3 years ago I had been so involved in the Whitetail hunting business I had quit fishing, so to catch a DD and hook another in 3 years I can say I am blessed.
