What is the best to use and where do you get it? Also if you run out what all do you use until you can get some?

Depends on what you want to do with your head cement. Are you tying chenille jigs and is that what you mean or do you tie thread neck jigs or is it to coat over painted eyes? All these make a difference.
Now for me I make most of my one glue/head cement. For chenille jigs I bought a qt of Clear High Gloss Lacquer and a qt of MEK about 10 years ago and still have at least half of both left so not running out any time soon! I mix them about 50/50 and on;'t actually measure. This stuff will soak in faster than any other and will not leave a hard spot where you use it. It will soak in all the way and make glue on the thread base.
I also make my own flexible glue (like Dave's Flexamnent) for thread neck jigs, but will leave that for another time unless you PM me if you want that.
Oh and if your wanting to clear coat over painted eyes I would get some clear Vinyl because the others will discolor a couple colors like Chart!
