Well...... It's came to my knowledge that spinning reels are needed for more than just crappie fishing. Hahaha. I'm needing a few good spinning rods to dropshot and shaky head with. Preferably 150$ or less since these hopefully never get used. I have been eyeballing the Shimano compre im9 rods. The 7'2" MH along with a 7'2" M. Any opinions?

I went to Walmart and spent 49 bucks on a diawa rod on sale. and I had a shimano reel. I have 25 g loomis rods and I been using this cheep rod and love it. just caught 9 pounder on it. use a light braid with a 10 lb flour leader.

I just bought an inferno rod and inferno reel from Dicks and it feels great.

first time using it caught 5 fish 3 got away due to how easy it is to hook fish with it that you don't even know there is a fish on the other end until the string starts to move side ways. I have the drag so it makes noise when anything other than the worm is on the end. I love it.

Field & Stream - Inferno Spinning Rod 6'6" Medium Light
Field & Stream - Inferno 30
Power Pro Slick 8 - 10 lb 150 yard
Seaguar Red Label - 10 lb
Eagle Claw - 10 lb Mono.

Use the eagle claw 10 lb mono (cheap string) to tie to your spinning reel. Wound it a few times so that the Slick 8 can stick. Splice your Slick 8 to the mono. The reel will hold the entire spool. Use your Seaguar as leader. I use enough leader that it wraps around the spool twice and the slack goes down to the reel.

You could probably pick all that up at Dicks today.

and why do you feel you must have a spinning rid for drop shotting and shakey head?

I have 2 Shimano Compre IM9 spinning rods, both 6'8". They are labeled "worm and jig". I use them primarily for shaky heads, worms, smaller craws, and finesse jigs. Very happy with them and have caught a lot of bass using them. Great rods for $100.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I got a lews speed stick. Paid 100 bucks for it and it came with a cheapy Shimano spinning reel on it. Works great for dropshotting.

I don't, and they take up too much room on your deck!

Lews actually had a pretty good spinning combo that Cabela's carries. I got it for $79 and have been using it for drop-shotting exclusively. Lots of fish!

Temple Fork Outfitters 7 foot rods. Medium action for drop shot, light Texas rigs, and crappie. Medium Heavy action for pitching/flipping. Both have Pflueger President 6930 series reels. Both have 30 pound braid. The medium action has a 12 pound co-polymer leader. I love these rods for these applications.

99 dollar rod and a fifty dollar reel.

Let me guess: First in your family trees with opposable thumbs and you just must fish with them?

Ha! I'm kidding both of you; I have been saving that "line" for just the right opportunity.

Seriously, though, any top pros you know of who don't use spinning tackle for the drop shot? And, since we are capitalists and believe in the motivation of money, why would they use tackle that in any way jeopardizes their winnings? If they are finesse fishing with 6 or 8 lbs. fluoro, they are likely using spinning reels.

Brad

I've owned a few Compres. Nice rods.

Use them all the time. Hey guys it's not the rod and reel it's you. Get a grip.

TAKE A PHOTO HOME NOT THE FISH. CATCH AND RELEASE
Set the hook first and ask questions later.
