I went below the Lake Whitney dam again yesterday and launched at Riverside Park at day break. They have not generated electricity in about 2 weeks so the fishing conditions have changed since I was on the river 2 weeks ago. There is a lot of "moss" on the water and a lot of new "moss" beds. The bite was a little slower than it has been but I picked up a few. I fished for several hours using my regular poles but when I got to Coon Creek I pulled out my fly rod and got some good practice. I have been learning to fly fish the past few months and thought I would work some of the small sets of rapids where the river makes some twists and turns. I have heard there were fish in the moving water at the end and beginning of the runs in the shallow running water. I spent about 30 minutes working one small run and many times caught a fish on each cast. All were small but on the fly rod they were fun to catch. I used an olive wooly bugger and it worked well. There was a good variety of fish. I caught stripers, largemouth and bluegill but didn't get any smallmouth. I am anxious to my next trip to the Brazos and working the rapids again.

I would love to have a house on the river. I have been on the Brazos about 12 times in the past two months. I went below the dam at Whitney on Saturday and put in at Rochelle's on Sunday and went a couple of miles upstream to try out some fly fishing there. Love the Brazos River it is a great fishery. Going on the guides trips with Shane Davies were some of the best investments of time I have made in learning how to fish the river. Of course one thing I don't always do is to slow down and really work an area. There is always so much river I was to see and fish until it is hard to spend the time it takes to really cover an area throughly.

Look for me next time you are on the river I will probably be there!
