I have been learning to fly fish the past few months and got a lot of practice while kayak fishing below Lake Whitney on the Brazos. About 2 miles below the dam at Coon Creek there are several sets of rapids. The last small set before the river turns back to the south provided plenty of fish, all were small but I caught a variety of them including, perch, large mouth and stripers. Many times I caught one on every cast using a olive wooly bugger. Cant wait to go back and stay a little longer working those places again.

Sounds like you had major fun, nothing wrong with a bunch of smaller fish, the big ones can come later.
