I went to a pond/lake in the city of Plano and one of the park rules on the sign stated: "Swimming or boating in any body of water" is prohibited. I assume this apply to kayak as well?

Yes, it does. A couple of buddies launched on the lake at Oak Point a few years ago and within minutes Plano PD was there to get them off the water.

Imo thats a silly rule. Human powered vessels shouldn't be banned on any water. This takes away a new persons ability to start small to gain comfort etc. Come on plano...

Plano citizens contact your city councilmen. Municipal government is the only government you can still effect change.

You are wasting your time. The Plano City Council only cares about the home owners who live next to those ponds. Not one of you has Plano listed as your location. I grew up in Plano and the cops would chase us for riding motorcycles in empty fields.

Essentially the same thing in Arlington, courtesy of the Parks Department. Only difference is that they made exceptions for Lake Arlington and River Legacy East, where there is a designated canoe launch. Go figure.....

I wonder why Legacy Pond is exempt to this ...? Or maybe it isn't and I've been breaking the law for a while now.

I don't think it is exampt unless that is not managed by the city. That is where I found the sign at a nearby pond that also connects to the Legacy pond.

The pond at Legacy is private property, not owned or managed by the City of Plano.

I'm not sure, but if I'm not allowed to fish in my kayak there any more, I'm gonna be pissed... Check this out... City of McKinney at Towne Lake, You can fish from the bank and it's 100% legal to put a kayak in... BUT... you cannot fish from your kayak.
~You won't catch any fish if you don't try!

I was there checking out Legacy pond and other ponds nearby and that is where I noticed the sign... I was hoping that it would not apply to kayak... what a party pooper.
