Just received this message from Verizon Fios. Thanks
We are committed to providing our customers with the best TV experience while keeping our prices low. Each year, the cost of content increases substantially, and in order to prevent those costs from being reflected on your bill, it is sometimes necessary to remove channels from our lineup. We have decided not to renew our contract for the Outdoor Channel and have discontinued broadcasting it. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

this is serious !!! verizon also removed the Sportsman Channel a month or so back... I'm willing to bet there is a push to remove hunting and shooting programming from some liberal in the verizon management... they drop American programming over supposed cost yet telamundo and cnn and msnbc who have few viewers are still carried... you may think i'm crazy but this is an assault on hunting and shooting and soon it will be fishing because some lefty doesn't want people seeing poor little fish be caught...
all you TFF'ers better call verizon and complain they are dropping our programming...sadly I just did and got to speak to a foreigner who harassed me till i hung up her in frustration, but I will keep calling and using their website to leave comments...
this country is going to carp !!!

I got the email this morning also, that's two channels I pay extra for that we lost. I wonder if my bill will be cheaper now? If not, they will be hearing from me.

WFN was dropped by Charter when I used them for cable. I was paying $10 a month for Outdoor, Sportsman and WFN. When I called to figure out why it wasn't showing up and found out it had been dropped, I asked if my bill would be lower because I was paying for that package specifically for that channel. The guy said that's not how it works.
Well, it damn sure should work that way. I'm paying for a package of three channels. A third of those channels is no longer available. It should be prorated.

well I got a person on the phone...she said there was a lot of people that called in to complain about the Sportsman Channel being dropped a month or so back, then she said they could not be re-added so I did the only American thing left to do...I canceled my verizon tv service...LOL... looks like Amish TV for me...took the FIOS box off the tv and hit the auto tuner and I have almost 50 FREE channels hitting the antenna and they are all HD...looks like I need to learn spanish to watch most of them but at least I got ME TV to watch all the old re-runs and local Fox news so I'm good...

I got the same email. Sadly, the reality is that all the 'cable' providers are doing is accelerating the switch to on-demand programming. TV as we know it today will be gone. There will no longer be schedules but release dates for new episodes. Apple TV, Google Chrome TV, etc. will be the key enablers. We are just caught in the middle while this shakes out.
The losers will be Verizon and other content consolidators in the old school mentality. After the fact, they will try to catch-up, but if Google gets a good lead, time to fire up Good Night Irene.

I complained and they told me to watch the Discovery Channel instead, to find the same kind of shows.

I was paying $11.99 a month for a sports package that included Outdoor and Sportsman. If you are, too, you can cancel the package online or by calling.
