Well, traded the 2004 F250 in for a 2013 Ford F150 Lariat. For some reason the trailer brake setting does not recognize a trailer is hooked up. All lights, blinkers, and backing up trailer work just fine. But when I am backing the trailer, the backup camera alerts since the boat is hooked up. Is this normal? I verified that the fuses are good, and there is a relay installed for trailer brakes. Any other reason it would show no trailer disconnected when trying to set the trailer brake option? I would assume that if a trailer was hooked up, the backup camera alert would disable. Any ideas?

Trailer brakes have nothing to do with the back alarm.

You have to select to turn it off every time you put the truck in reverse when a trailer is hooked up to it. Kind of sucks...but it's like a habit to me now just to push the down arrow once and hit okay everytime I'm backing with a trailer.

Man up. Fight the GOOD fight.

I don't think the truck's trailer display settings were designed to work without a brake controller and programming.

Correct. We have added in quite a few here at work to trucks that didnt have them from the factory. Need to be programmed

I installed mine. About $200 for the controller and around $150 for the dealer to program. Works like a charm but I wouldn't bother unless you have trailer brakes.

Um, the trailer brake controller and settings are for electric brakes found on travel trailers, cargo, horse, etc. Boat trailers have surge brakes and are not controlled be the truck.
