New to this forum, so if this information is already here I apologize for the post. Here's my problem: I live in land locked Midland with an 8 year old boy dying to fish. I've been reading a lot about the Bass Hunter and Pelican boats and like that they're low cost, low maintenance, and easy to store. Before I run out and buy one with the money that's burning a hole in my pocket, I need to know if there are any places within a reasonable drive to safely use one of these boats. There are lakes within 2-3 hours of here (yes, driving two to three hours to fish is considered reasonable if you live in Midland), but since I'm not from here I don't know if those lakes are suitable for these small boats. I'm willing to drive to Lubbock, San Angelo, Sweetwater, or anywhere else within 3 hours as long as we can get good use from the boat.

Any help or suggestions are welcome. I'm envious of those of you in DFW who have so many places to fish that even the WalMart has a fishing pond. Our WalMart has a big pile of tumbleweeds.
HELP !!!!!!!!

Killtruck, there are probably very few, if any, on this forum that would know anything about lakes I. West Texas. At least that is my guess.

Lake Alan Henry on US84 near Justiceburg is in good shape. It's loaded with spotted bass and largemouth bass. It has good catfish and crappie populations. It has good camping facilities with covered picnic tables. There are bathrooms and showers. Get a chicken fried steak or burger at Ziska's across from the entrance gate.

Thanks Catfish 356. Does it have some protected coves that are reasonably safe for a little pond boat?

LAH is long and narrow with lots of little coves. I have fished in a 12ft aluminum boat with no trouble. If the wind gets up too much there is a floating crappie house. Another good option is Fort Phantom Hill lake just north of Abilene. It has a good bass population. It also has hybrid stripers.

Oak creek north San Angelo, in san agelo you can lanuch in the concho river and fish up and down the river it's more like a long lake Colorado city lake, champion, Stamford north of abilene I would look at google maps and just start searching for lakes.
