Planning on going to Pines Thursday with my son, but I've never been before. I researched a bit and see there are boat lanes; what do the markers look like? And how should I run the markers? (left of them, or right of them, or between 2 markers etc.) Any help would be great, thanks!

Thank you! Should I run close to the polls then, and to the side they're pointing to?

I've only been there once, but I stayed in the boat lanes with the poles and didn't have any problems

94sktr is correct. The further you get back into the river area the tighter the lanes get and sharper the turns get. Be careful and don't try hot rodding back in there. I saw a terrible accident where a man lost his life back in there. He was driving like an idiot i'm sad to say.

You will be fine if you take it safe and exercise good judgment on your speed. The Pines is a wonderful fishery and one of the my favorite lakes anywhere.

LOP is like 2 separate lakes. If you go to river (hwy 155) end, it's very shallow and stay close to the boat lane. If you are on the other end, it deeper with no boat lane. May want to try Hurricane or Johnson creek

Alley Creek area would be a great place to put in. Very nice boat ramps & facilities, and quick access to open water if you want to 'run the lake'.

It's not really necessary to risk hitting a stump, though. You could put in around the 155 bridge and hardly use the big motor. Fish a fluke or 10" worm against the bank & around the floating grass. A spinner bait with tandem willow leaf blades is great for casting in shallow areas where you see bass crashing on the shad.

I've been catching fish in shallow water.

Don't be fooled with 'open water' anywhere North of Alley Creek. There are stumps everywhere! Stay in the boat lanes on the side of the pole with a triangular marker. Boat lanes are narrow!

There is supposed to be a cold front on Thursday.

Good luck!

JR
