I prefer to use a regular barrell swivel with a pegged cork on top of the swivel, I mainly use this method while anchoring and if I get slack in the line the float still keeps my bait in the depth that I choose. I tie my weight line and my hook leader on the bottom ring of the swivel. I have never been a fan of the actual three way swivel and I couldn't even tell you why other than its just my preference to use a barrell swivel.

If you do this but put an unpegged float on your weight line you get a "Tiny" rig.

Check out an kentucky rig. I've been experimenting with it a bit lately while dragging baits. You can change out the weight or hook within a couple seconds if you need to adapt to the conditions. Also, I find that using a traditional 3 way swivel setup gets tangled up more easily.

I will use a 3-way swivel if bank fishing in current on a river or creek. I think just about any other rig would be better in a lake or from a boat though.
