I've been reading a lot on here but I never see any threads about ya'll making painting your own spooks. Is there a reason for that? or are they just not as popular as crankbaits?

I paint some other walking baits, I shy away from repainting factory lures just because the time involved in stripping them down and preparing them for paint. There are some good options available for walking baits and popping baits out there unpainted though. Here are a few of the top waters I have done recently.

On a side note I will have some showerblows in a few weeks that I am repainting that are going to be sweet baits. They are very expensive to repaint and sell though so I imagine I will be keeping them.

If you are not familiar with this bait and like a walking bait you should check it out.

topwater and/or walking baits are fun too paint as well as fish. nothing like a topwater strike. brad does a great job on his topwaters as well as all the other varieties he paints. here's a few i've done.

This is my Money Spook. Just one of my top money winners in my tournament baits. The spook is patterned after the Zell Rowland 3 hook signature edition that was introduced in the 90's but has been discontinued. It gets the third hook, stainless steel hardware and the ghost stripe.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

Thanks for the kind words we all try to produce the best baits we can. With the help and feedback from fellow tffers we will all keep inproving imo. I'm working on getting a smaller Sammie with the holographic foil that will be a sweet bait, the larger Sammie at 5" and 1.25oz is a little overkill for most places I fish. I have sold several to people fishing fork though and those fish over there seam to like the big topwater baits. The smaller one will be 4" and .50oz and I'll be able to do that same green gizzard pattern. I can't wait to get them in about 2 weeks away at the moment.

Spooks are great baits...here are a few prototype patterns I did earlier this year:

Basscat was kind enough to supply the feathered trebles. I thought the frog pattern was a sure thing, and it caught its share of bass, but the top pattern seems to be the most consistent of the four. Thinkin' about dressing it up with a lateral line similar to Don's money spook. texas
