I finally managed to find a day when I didn't get the call for a job, and got out on the lake this morning. It was a truly nice day, not too hot, with light north winds all day. Cedar Creek is now almost two feet low. Water temperature was 80 to 82 degrees.

I ended up catching 16 keepers and lots of small fish. They were caught on concrete, 10 to 14 feet deep, in 14 to 25 feet of water. 12 feet ended up being the best depth for me. I kept nine of the really nice fish and released the rest.

I was using my usual 1/16 oz and 3/32 oz jigs until I ran into Roman (nice meeting you, Roman!) He was getting a better bite than me on smaller jigs, so I switched to a 1/32 oz jig and smaller plastic. Sure enough, it was one of those days when they bit a lighter jig much better. One of the down sides of being off the water as long as I have is that you completely lose touch with what the fish are doing. Dark gray shad was the best color for me today.

I don't think this is quite the beginning of the great Cedar Creek fall bite yet, but it was better than I've done in the few summer trips I made this year, so I think that fall bite is getting close.

I thought this was a two pounder, but it only went 1 lb 13 oz on the scale, so obviously my eyeballs are out of calibration again.
