So, Recently I've come to the sad conclusion that I suck at fishing. I'm not sure why because I used to be able to catch a fish in an empty 5 gallon bucket at home depot, (that never went well with security) All jokes aside, I'm looking for someone who can take me out and re-show me the ropes I guess? Maybe I missed something, but for the past few months I have gone out almost every day and have not caught anything! Today was the first time i even got a few bites, but it wasnt even bass and I didnt even catch them. I'm 18 trying to get into college currently unemployed but may soon have a job working mon-fri 8am-3pm. Until them I'm free whenever, and I dont care about weather conditions. Im very respectful, I only drink water and the taste of a cig disgusts me, But I dont mind if other people do it, I grew up with an entire family smoking and I dont even smell it anymore. I have a good amount of tackle, a few boxes of plastics, couple frogs, couple crank baits, rods, reels, etc. I can help pay for gas sometimes, and I also have my own vehicle. I have a boat but it is not exactly "fishable" and is really old (1989), but I do have a boating license (everyone under 25? is required to have one now) Anyways, Long story short, I've taught myself mostly everything I know because my dad was not around when I was younger, and am looking for someone who knows fishing. No I dont want to hire a guide. I kinda want to learn what to use in certain situations and how to use it, what colors in water clarity etc. I've watched plenty of youtube videos but its not the same as in person. So if you're someone who wants to help a young guy out, message me or something. grin

Edit: Adding a few things, I've never used a drop shot, a shaky head, a football jig, a swimbait (besides a trigged fluke), and lots of other stuff.
Also would like to learn some bank fishing techniques.

Bovine,
I would advise you to look into a bass club like the one I have fished in for years. We are a draw club which means we choose partners for each tournament which gives you a chance to fish with different people. This is great because you learn different techniques used for different types of structure from some really experienced anglers. I would take you out myself but I don't own a boat anymore and am a non boater in the club myself. It is a fairly inexpensive way to learn from different guys on different lakes.

Yeah I kinda thought about that, but I feel like I would be a burden and give someone a major disadvantage.

You wouldnt be a burden to a local club. Local bass clubs are all about having fun and fishing they are not about serious tournament anglers trying to win money. They always enjoy getting younger members who love to fish

Hmm, How would I find one? I dont exactly like lake lewisville too much, (have only caught a few crappie and sand bass from there off the barge), could be due to low education. If anyone is in a club that wants another person, let me know!

You can check out our website www.centurybassclub.com to get info. There is only one tournament left next month on Bob Sandlin and the championship that is at the end of October each year. You will definitely not be a burden. Everyone fishes individually as far as each tournament goes and for your points each tournament. I can't think of one person in the club that wouldn't really enjoy having you in the boat and passing on their knowledge to help you out. Next year will be our 40th year anniversary and we would love to have you join us. You can email me with any questions you have about the club or anything I can pass on to help you out with your general bass fishing.
You can email me at tbassyates@yahoo.com

Hey I will take you. I just saw your post, just got off of the Lew. I go by myself or take my dog who really does not like it this time of year. Caught about 20 or so this morning. I live in flower mound so we are close. Usually launch at tower bay or lake park. I do pretty well with drop shot out there. Just PM me so we can hook up.

100℅ join a draw bass club. The knowledge you will learn from each angler is priceless and make new friends. Just remember clean up your trash, used plastics, etc. and offer gratuity. Good luck.

Send me a PM. Usually hit LL solo, but you can tag along if you like. Don't have a real set schedule. I go when I can.

Bovine,

The recommendation to join a bass club is a solid one. You should really consider it. I have been fishing for just five years and joined my first club for 2015. I have learned a lot.

The Denton County Bass Club meets on the first Monday of each month at the Bass Pro Grapevine, You can check out our website at www.dentonctybassclub.com. We are not a draw club but someone always has a back deck open and our mission is to never leave a guy on the bank.

I often have a back seat open but probably have about as much to teach as you do. Let me know if you ever want to hook up.

Good luck!
