Seems I'm replacing rope a lot from chafing and UV. Been using a thinner rope than I think I'm going with next. It's the nylon core stuff with the protective cover. Super strong and easy to work with, but don't last long. I like about 200' of line for each anchor so I don't want anything too big.

How much chain per anchor if any? A gotta have?

for my Big boat (24 ft) I use 10ft of galv. chain, and Braid 5/8ths nylon rope, but I have a Winch (Elect) lol..
for the Jon boat, I use Mule tape (What I call it) flat nylon rope...

In my opinion, it depends a lot on the type of anchor you use with box anchors I do not believe you need much more than 2-3 foot of chain but with most others 5 foot plus like Johnny said.
as far as rope, I have 200' of 5/8" on the front of the boat and don't really care for it, its a bit thick and kind of a pain on my cleats, at the back I have 150' of 1/2' and like it very well.
2cents wish I had more than 2 to rub togather

I never have used more than a couple of feet of chain but I have often heard it's better to use more chain, what is the advantage and purpose of more chain?

Mike, the way I understand it, the chain of course adds weight and when the rope is tight the additional downward force on the digging edge of the anchor helps it bite into the bottom. I also think that the chain acts a bit like a dampener to shock pulls on the rope helps keep the waves from yanking the anchor loose. Of course these are my thoughts and not necessarily factual.

Looking really hard at some 5/8ths stuff. Looks big, 400' of that in the front of the boat would be a big pile of rope.

I like the bigger rope for the winter because its easier to handle and hold on to when your hands are frozen and dont want to work.

X2. This reminds me I need to find some new rope for that deep water.
