I have the Abu Garcia reel listed in the title. It is green in color. This reel needs repaired as the line guide does not work (well a little if you move it with your hand to get it started then it quits when it tries to reverse directions) and one handle knob is loose from the weld on the knob holder bar that hold the two knobs. My question is should I get this repaired or just buy a new one. I have recently got into carp and cat fishing and I need a good heavy duty bait cast reel that will hold up. There is a guy who does repair work in Graham, he charges like $18.50 to clean plus parts. I really don't want to pay $150 for a new bait cast reel, when I really don't take very good care when using them. And I never clean a reel, I am no good at that kind of thing.

you just answered your question, why not get it cleaned and fixed? good solid reels as always

look at a Penn jigmaster or 209 inexpensive and bulletproof

That reel could be cleaned and repaired for far less than the cost of a new one. I have over 30 old abus that I use.

Thanks to all, I have decided to try to get it repaired. Will take it to Graham later this week.
