I wanted to know which would you recommend for a Lowrance Elite 5 HDI unit. I talked to customer service at Lowrance they said that the insight would work better with Lowrance units because they sync up better with no issues. To me it seems like the hot maps would be better but wanted to get some expert user opinions on which is better and works seamlessly with what I have. I want to get better depth information, contours, seeing where the channels, creek beds and roads are.

For a Elite 5 HDI unit, I would stick with Insight.

I made my recommendation based on others observing that the data processing was slower with the Navionics map in Elite units. I have not observed this in HDS units with faster processors.

The "best" map card is the one that has the detail you want where you want it.
You don't have to guess what Navionics has since you can view the current maps on the Navionics website's Web App.
If Navionics is your choice, the BEST card for the Elite models is the Navionics+. You can delete all that is on the card and only load the locations you fish. The less data on the card the better the unit will perform.
It is customizable for what you want for a year since all new purchases include a year of Freshest Data Updates.
If you already own a map card, you can get the same feature for $99 and use your card to active it. The product is Navionics Update.
The Update card becomes the 2GB version of Navionics+ and has no maps, you choose what to download to the card and like the Preloaded 16GB version, you can have the Sonar Charts map layer too.
You don't get that with the Premium version.

I was told by Lowrance that platinum or anything above it doesn't work with elite models it would have to be an HDS or better. He was selling me on getting insight pro because they make insight and that it functions better with the Lowrance models better and would be better for the model elite 5 I have. He said the HDS models have insight pro 3d mapping and graphing pre-installed so if I had one of those I wouldn't even need to buy a map card.

Navionics premium for the Elite series....
This^^^ I run Elite 5 HDI on my kayak with this chip. No problem.
