I'm blessed to live on lake Fork, I have the opportunity to observe a lot of mother nature at her best. The last 2 years has produced a bonaza of small bass from 3" inches to around 10"inches. I see those mean little devils attack small minnows with no mercy, there must be hundreds around our boat house and dock.

Yesterday, I spotted a 6" bass with a mouth not much bigger around than a quarter stuffed with something. I looked at it for a minute and realized it was a frog, there were arms and leg's sticking out, there was noway that fish could eat that frog.

I went on about my business, about 3 hrs later I was back down at the dock, and sure enough the little bass was still in it's spot, and the frog was still in it's mouth. Either the frog was stuck, or that fish was just plain mean and wouldn't let go. LOL...

I"ve seen much larger fish get a crappie, or another bass stuck in their gullet and die.
Their aggressive nature starts early, it's not an aquired trait, they're mean from the get go..
Anyway, just thought I'd share that, it's a true blessing to be able to see the little things, so many of us let go unnoticed..

It's always amazed me what fish will eat, I caught many fish not much bigger than my spook.

Yep, the other day I was at Grapevine trying out this lure I was modifying and didn't get to see the action on the lure until the fourth cast. Little dudes wouldn't leave me alone. They are like piranha.

Bass seem to have a poor since of what they can fit in their mouth sometimes. A couple years ago I saved a 9+ bass on Mill Creek in Canton by pulling a huge Crappie out of her mouth. The bass was just flopping on the surface and it was one of the bigger Crappie I had ever seen. That would've been by far my pb fish if I had caught her on rod and reel.

We have 3 distinct year class fish in the shallow water right now.. Some have to be last yrs spawn the10"inch fish, some(the real small 2-3"inch fish) this years spawn, and some stocking fish that are in that 4-6" inch range.. I'm no biologist, but you can see the age range, just look around the grass lines.

I also noticed an abundance of small lmb below lavon dam while water was being released. Could not keep them 6-10" fish off the hook! Raindancing worked well this passed spring

Your observations on are spot on. They are mean, aggressive critters...but they are also "smarter" than most give them credit for.

One of the reasons I enjoy ponds so much is that you can observe fish up close and personal. In my ponds, I often fly fish for bluegills. The bass are conditioned to follow me around waiting for a bluegill to get hooked on a fly and then attack it or wait until it is released and then take it down. When the waters are clear I can easily see the bass following me around the edges and taking advantage.

Seen school bass hunt some panfish right at the shore. I was literally a foot away and it was something out of Animal Planet. They had herded all the panfish in a group and were pushing them up the shore like some dolphins. At the exact same time I caught a bass and the ball of baitfish took off all over the place. I ruined their hunt but it was surreal.
