Gonna be hittin the surf Saturday with my dad. Would like to find the Reds or trout. Last time I was there we got into the bluefish and they were fun. We go to surfside beach. I was wondering if anybody had any reports on the surf there and what to use.

i was there this weekend. 1/2 mile from the pedistrian beach. surf was rough on Friday and Saturday. Sunday it had calmed down. brought live crabs hoping to get some reds. Didn't catch a single red. Caught some specs, sheepshead, black drum, black tips, a lot of hardheads and bonnethead sharks. used various baits. live shrimp, live croaker, live crabs, mackerel, squid, freshly dead shrimp. caught a lot of fish but only a few that were edible or legal. did catch some of the biggest hardheads I had ever caught (many near three pounds). the bonnethead sharks were varying from 2-3 feet in size.

were you near the jetty or more towards San Luis Pass? I was just wading out in the beach. most of the bite was early morning or night fishing. can't fish too much midday with all the people in the water.

We were at Bryan beach on the west side of Freeport, last year it was good, but this year it hasn't been productive. Thought I'd try it again, bad decision I guess. Actually headed to surfside this saturday. Probably be almost midway between San Luis and surfside, usually not that many people there usually. And last time the blues were biting.
