I just switched from a high five to a 25 Tempest on my champion 202 with a 200 Mercury efi. I expected to see an increase in speed but it has stayed about the same. With the high five I was turning 5500-5600 rpm and going 57-58 mph. With the new prop I'm only turning 5200 and 56-57 mph. Could changing motor height be what I need to do?

Yes it could help plus a good motor tune-up. Just search setting motor height.

You should get more speed with the Tempest. A high five, in the boats I've known that had them, was slow.

You might need to go down in pitch with a 200. A 23 or worked 24 might be the ticket.

You need to go down to a 23 and have it worked for your boat.

So I shouldn't worry about the motor height and start looking to trade to a smaller pitch? Anybody interested?

That motor should be turning that prop 5,700 at 68ish mph. Let's review your setup and see where it's missing.

8" jack plate. set at 3.5 to 3.75 " below pad. if the prop is worked you can run 3.25 to 3.50 " below pad.

the 25p tempest is a good prop for that combo (unless you are loaded very heavy).

Thanks for all the response. I had to go to the hospital in Houston for my dad. When I get back I will check out exactly my setup and post it and see what adjustments I can make.

A 3.0 motor lights a 202 up, but it still runs good with a duece if you don't pack it down like Steve said.

I have a champ 202 with a 200 pro-v yamaha. I tried a 25 and 24 tempest. the 24 is on it permanently. Gets out the hole fantastic and top end is good enough for me. Mine turns 5700 at ~64 top end with the 24.
