While doing the live release boat this morning at the Big Bass Splash we had a TPWD fisheries biologist (Dan Bennett) on the boat teaching us how to do a fin clip for a study we have been doing on overs for most of this year.

In the meantime they brought us an over that needed attention and while I was fizzing it I noticed a sore or something on it's tongue. So I showed it to the Dan and asked if it was from a hook in the tongue? ( A hook in the tongue usually means death for the bass.)

He looked at it and then pulled it out. In fact it was part of a gill from a crappie or sunfish (perch). I have never seen that in 13 years working the boat.

We also found the remains of an about a 5" shad floating in a tank that had been spit up.

That's cool. I've seen tons of random stuff in a bass mouth, never saw another fishes gills tho.
