I'd book a couple half day trips. Weather up there that time of year is dicey. On any given day there is better than even odds fishing may be difficult or impossible. Especially if you are hoping to bed fish.

There are several, I used Bret Alexander, but we ended up Walleye fishing out of Sturgeon Bay and for Smallmouth went up Northern Door County. Bret is probably the best Muskie guide in area, but also really good Walleye and Smallmouth.

early August. I did Traverse Bay early August too. My suggestion Smallmouth would be May early June.

Did Bret Alexander have a place to stay or a close by motel

He had the worst recommendation ever! well, Monte Coon stayed there and loved it. Honestly, I liked the place, on the water, and cool bar. However, I gave them my 2 limits of 2-3 lb Walleye filets they promised to keep for a couple more days while I fished for other stuff. The day I checked out they first could't find them and finally found them sitting out spoiled! A huge restaurant freezer and they couldn't keep filets for a client just 2 days. frown

That place is called Beach Harbor Resort.

I'm sure Bret has other recommendations too.
