I was out this past Sunday and fished from 7-11am. I started in the north end and caught a 2.5lb'er near the rock jetty on a T-rigged Yum Wooley Bug in about 2-3' water. Then I trolled along the shoreline south throwing a squarebill Lucky Strike and picked up a 2lb'er near the rock point where the creek runs in and there is the huge tree laydown covering about 1/2 the length of the creek entrance. That was in about 2' of water. After that I went further down south and caught a 1.25lb'er on the Sulphur Creek Point that meets the north side of the lake. That one was on a small 3-5' white Bomber crank in about 3-4' water (right near the ledge of the main creek). After that it was pretty slow until I caught another 1.5lb'er on the west side of the island. That one was about 2-3' deep and was hiding in between a patch of hydrilla and some other foliage about 15' from the shore. Nothing after that. Most of the bites came between 7-9am, then the wind picked up and it was slow, slow, slow. Here are a couple pics of the first two.

Thanks for the report. Do you go to GC a lot? I haven't fished there yet and was looking for a reason to go. Most of the stories I hear about that lake say it's not very productive. I was wondering what your experience with it was. Thanks.

I'm headed out there this evening with my roommate...will report on how it goes. Planning crank the points and timber until sunset and then throw frogs over the pads after that.

I went there last weekend, threw frogs and buzz baits all over the place. Nothing. I even went to the dam to see if I could stretch my line with a gaspergou. I have gone over there in the past and couldn't keep them off of my cranks. Nothing.
By the way; does the plant generate power? I saw them spreading the coal around like they were still operational.

Ended up going out there with the roommate from around 3:30-8:30. Didn't get a single bite on anything other than frogs, which they started hitting around 5:00. Got tons of hits on that but couldn't get anything to stick...was using 60lb braid but only a MH rod (heaviest one I own unfortunately). Tip for the frogs: use black/dark green. I used a black and the roommate used a chartreuse-bellied one, and I got probably 5X as many hits as he did fishing the same areas.

I have limited success at Gibbons. I don't think I've ever really caught more than 8 bass in any given trip. I'm usually good for at least 1 fish. Summer months can be brutal, and I can never find a pattern. I hear a lot of reports from guys who say to fish deeper main lake points, but I usually catch 'em shallow; even during the summer. Watermelon plastics are usually what I find them on. I have a 16' flat bottom jon boat so I do a lot better handling the wind at Gibbons than at Conroe, which is closer to me. Preferably, I like to go to Bastrop or Fayette, but that's only when I know I can go out there for a longer trip and don't mind the 2+ hour drive to those lakes.
