So, You are on a lake you have never fished. You have your fish finder. It is summer. It is hot. Besides the bridge pillars how would you locate crappie?

TOW searching for structure that is not like the surroundings. Brush piles, laydowns that still have the limbs and root ball, trees that lean over or have limbs that have broken and stick off to the side with the top on the bottom. Submerged tree tops. These are the places I find them concentrated on. Sometimes, the smallest difference can hold BIG fish!

Those map cards point out the channels & sharp drop offs, if I was too go to a new lake those would be the hot areas I'd be scanning as it would quickly allow you to find the depth the fish are holding & most of the natural structure will be near those areas....Most map cards also list submerged structure be it a stump field, road beds or old bridges that will hold fish too... Looking for bent poles is "not" necessary as some would recommend.... If you don't have a map card getting lake map would help locate these areas also..

Easy...
First and foremost plan your scouting trips.
Get an extra power cord, a power converter or 12v deer feeder battery. This allows you to plan in the conform of your lazyboy.
Second is to understand seasonal patterns to determine where the crappie should be on the lake.
Third is to use your mapping on your electronics to determine where they are considering the season. Points, timber, shallow coves ect
I mark a waypoint in the areas that fit the above steps. I mark them using a flag icon and label it scout.
Fourth is to go scan those areas. 9 times out of 10 after following these simple steps I immediately find fish.

Another "HOT" tip I'll throw out is although you can catch a lot of fish off of the structure you can see above the water the better less pressured fish will be on the stuff you can't see other than with your electronics, that stuff usually just get passed up & usually always hold fish....

I think my unit has more on time off the water than on the water... Be it watching recordings or looking at my map to look for new areas to scan.... Great info TE....
