Monday was poor, but Tuesday was good. Why? Because the pattern changed and it took Monday to figure it out. So, on Monday I took out my sister Dee, our minister of music Teddy and my SS teacher Don. I had identified several structures over the last few weeks that were producing and was optimistic we would have a good day. Started at the high spot on Long Ridge, but saw nothing there. Next stop was Key Ranch Drop-off. When we approached there were 3 boats working the area but were there because they had seen some bird activity - according to Snaggin Steve and Fastguy who were two of the 3 boats. We looked around on the drop-offs but found few fish - a change from recent past. Next checked Merimac but nada there. So, headed north to Enchanted Isle Ridge and there in 15 to 17 fow on the south edge of it we finally found fish hugging the bottom. We caught 15 whites, 2 cats and a 16 inch hybrid there. That slowed so we went looking at other spots: The Rock Pile, Spillway Hump, Iron Wall Hump and Kevin's Point. We picked up just 2 more whites at these, then we headed in as it was time to get back. This was the worst trip in terms of fish caught year to date. Four people out for 5 hours and only 20 fish. At least the weather was cool and pleasant. Pics below of Teddy with his 1st catch - a tiny yellow bass and of my sis Dee with nice white bass.

When fishing gets bad in late summer and early fall, I usually have to switch tactics and fish shallow structures (10 to 18 fow) only and use #2 Mepps. I hadn't needed to do that until now. So, I went out today for a little over two hours, tried this strategy and caught 37 white bass and 2 nice yellow bass. All caught on #2 Mepps in 11 to 18 fow at the top of slopes. It was a scouting run where I left a spot after catching 5 to 10 fish. I left 4 spots still catching fish and caught 7 at a 5th spot. They were all main lake points between Saint Annes Point and Merimac Point.

Good report, Dennis. From what I have seen and heard from others, catching in just about every lake in North Central Texas has been slow. Every so often fish will bite for a while and then shut off. I hope the cooler temps will help get the fish more active. I've also noticed there is an over abundance of shad every where. The fish definitely don't have to chase a meal any more.

I hit most of the spots this morning that you hit on Monday, with very little results. Sounds like I should have tried closer to home.

Thanks Dennis!

Thanks for the report Mr. Christian. I have been using # 4's , which might explain why I have not caught very many fish. I have some # 3 mepps , but no # 2's. I will try them and see how it goes.
