Loc: A small blue spot on planet ea...
I heard several guys state that they have seen the tale tail signs of lakes beginning to "Turn Over" last weekend, but hadn't noticed it here yet.
Yesterday afternoon, I got a call from SCK saying the bite was almost dead on the East arm of Fork and he was headed to the West arm, "Would I like to join him?"
Even tho I was still worn out from the TSCC and my back yelled "NO!", I readily agreed as I have been waiting for this invite clap
On the way to the ramp, SCK told me that he thought the lake was starting to turn over, that his "Plum" trees were loaded, but you could only catch 1, maybe 2, then you might as well go to the next spot.
That proved to be the same story on the west arm, catch 1 or 2 dinks and even tho the graph showed a lot of fish, it was dead!
Then I noticed the foam on the water was slightly brown in color......it was too windy to see if there was bubbles coming up from the bottom.....

It started to make sense to me, while prefishing CC, I practically had to lay in the bottom of the boat when putting a lure on my jig to keep the fish from biting my fingers, then this past weekend, the bite was almost dead.
When I got home, some locals told me the bite had died here also bang

What are y'all seeing elsewhere??????

That sounds exactly how Lake Murval was yesterday and I wondered if it might be turning over. The water was very stained (almost muddy) but we've not had any rain recently and the fish bite was just how you described.

So what are the signs of a turn over?
Our bite went to nothing also on Wright Patman but I thought it was due to the cold front and the lingering cooler temps but wondering how air temp could affect the fish so rapidly.Only caught 7 fish in the past two days and the spots generally are good producers.

Labor Day weekend the west fork was stained and those jelly globs (I call em frog eggs but that's not what they are) were floating around everywhere and the brushpiles were bubbling. Those are all my signs the lakes turning over. Let it happen!!! I'm ready for some fall crappie beatdowns!!!

I call them freshwater jellyfish roflmao

Guess it's happening....take a week or so for things to level out.
Was told that it makes the fish sick, upset stomach.
Belinda & I fished all day last year during the turn over and had NADA to show until I dropped an Electric chicken. It was game on then.
Belinda picked up a rod with a pink jig head and started catching them hmmm

Yeah, I noticed the same thing Todd on CC. Tons of bubbles coming from the brushpiles and the water was stained. Usually you have a funky smell when the lake is turning over and this same time last year was when the west arm of Fork was turning over. Right during/after the TSCC. I like those "frog egg" balls. When I fish a tree that has them, I usually catch a big crappie. At least on Fork.

Once things settle down the big girls will be ready. So hold on to your rod as the bite will be vicious.

Thanks David, but he forgot to mention that this is a GREAT time to graph the lake and mark structure. Then after the lake settles, you can zip to your new way points and see if they are holding more fish now

I was under the impression lake water temp had to be much colder than what we currently have in Texas before the lake turnsover

Lake 'O' the Pines has been in a funk the last couple of weeks due to lake turnover. At least that's what I'm banking the "no bite" conditions we have been experiencing lately. Saw a lot of those floating jelly fish and the water column on my graphs have been full of debris. I got a report yesterday that someone had managed to catch 15 so hopefully it's about over and things will start to improve.

Those of you who think in a week to 10 days it will be over, maybe better do some more thinking. Its time to check and see if you have all of the color groups, sizes, and weighs because the fish will have to be found again. That is not to say the fish will move up are down the lake a long ways. But they will move up and down in the water and be on the cover at differ depths. The best way to get back on the better places is start at the creeks and work back. I have been fishing Texas lakes for over 50 years and this has by far been the best summer fishing ever, but its over. If I only got to fish one are two days a week I would visit some lakes that does not have this.
