The lake is huge and fishes differently depending on where you are. I don't fish the state park area but fishing below the dam is very good. Fishing from south D & D to the dam is iffy. Lots of fish went out after the flood gates were opened.

I finally brought my inflatable pontoon up yesterday and fished the Brazos below the dam. I caught so many stripers yesterday on perch I lost count. All of them were skinny and under 20 inches.

Bait should be easy for you to get. Perch are everywhere along the bank and shad are schooling heavy in most coves and creeks.

Good luck.

Jug-lines north @ RockCreek and Sky Camp. Sandies and Stripers have been elusive for us to say the least. Lots of fish being marked mid-lake south. Very few takers using slabs ,flies tied above, deep diving cranks around timber, bucktail jigs etc. We have been fishing the second half or pm. The am has to be producing some fish some where. We have not used live bait nor trolled. !?

I have fished PK 4 times this year since it filled up. The stripers are scattered all over the place. We have caught them from the dam to Costello island. I have not see a large school of them on my graph this year. I normally manage to catch 8-12 of them per trip. Most of the ones I catch have been about 15 to 17 inches. As for the sand bass, I have seen them surface twice, and we caught the heck out of them while they were. They were in small schools and did not stay up long. We kept our distance and made long casts and they didn't seem to mind. The second time we were in them, we had been working them for 30 minutes. A super fast macho bass boat, white and maroon, screamed up to us and deployed his trolling motor. He trolled right into them and they were gone for good. He made three or four casts and blew out of there. You can catch fish there, they will just make you work for them.

Leave it to the tetosterone boats to screw up a day of fishing. It's all about them.

River stripers are real skinny. The ones I cleaned yesterday looked like they lived in Auschwitz. Reminded me of the Texoma stripers after the threadfin kill. The channel cat was real fat though.

The lake is a better bet if you are going to keep fish.

PKfishin, did you lose a big bobber with a fish on it the other day? My dad and I kayaks below the dam yesterday and picked up a bobber that kept swimming around that had a mid sized bass on it!

We were using artificials and I ended up with two stripers and a largemouth. Rattler rap and a small swim bait were the winners. I can't wait to go back there with some love perch or shad!

Stripers and hybrids have been hitting the surface like crazy between south d&d and hog bend in the morning, we hit them hard Friday morning caught some 24"+ but on Saturday morning the schools were more sparadic and they didn't stay on the surface as long, we are going to try again in the morning also

I don't think I lost a bobber.

Perch work very well below the dam. They are not working like that in the lake. I fished yesterday from the Dam to Bluff creek and only caught three big drum. All fish were caught on some threadfins I caught while fishing for perch to use as bait. They surfaced right by my boat while I was fishing for perch to use as bait (worms) and I just dropped a throw net over them. I got about two dozen and put them in my 5 gallon minnow bucket. The shad lived for quite a while but the water got so nasty I could not see the bottom.

In my opinion, PK is fishing pretty tough right now. I think it may take a year or so for the fishing to come back. Opening the flood gates totally wrecked fishing for this year.

Do you think it affected sandbass and catfizh as well? Is there a boat ramp for launching 17 ft fish n ski below dam or is it super shallow for little boats only?

The closest public ramp is going to be at Scenic Point. However, That is about an hour and a half drive from PK state park. That park is far from everything. You'd be better off boating from the State Park.

Sandbass aren't affected especially around Costello island you can fill your live well while trolling using popping cork and jigs or rattle traps, stripers have been good in the morning around hogs bend
