Howdy,
I have a vacation starting tomorrow, and after I finish all the work on one of the trucks, I'm planning on going catfishing somewhere. I live right around Austin, and can drive a few hours to find a good lake. I usually fish Granger, or sometimes Lake Austin, but lately I haven't been out much, so I don't know where my best bet is to put my girlfriend on some fish. I did finally get an outboard to put on this canoe, so my options of where to go are a lot more open.
Any advice yall have would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to know your spots, just maybe a lake that would give us a good chance of catching some decent fish.

as of now I'm lookin at Bastrop and Buchanan. TPWD reports show them to be pretty solid right now. hopefully I have better luck than the last few times I went out

TPWD reports are not accurate. Honestly, if you would like to use a small boat and some nice cats go to Lake McQuenny or Lake Dunlap (Guadalupe river) in New Braunfels.

Heck I'd try Granger instead of driving all the way to Buchanan. Granger is full of fish. Fish around the willows towards the river and you should do just fine.

@Spud, I haven't ever been to Dunlap, but I've been watching bankeralwaysfishing's reports for years. Pretty easy to load in and get on some fish? I wouldn't even know where to start.

I've heard that TP&W has a set of fishing reports that they just keep recycling.

McQueeny is a good lake but there is no public access to it and the homeowners are very protective of it. There is one very poor ramp if you know where it is, that is owned by one of the local utilities. Actually it's a rocky, bumpy trail that extends into the water. Both Dunlap and Placid have decent ramps under I35 & I10, respectively. Lots of guys catfish on Granger and give good reports, but Chemdawg said he fished it and it was poor

I no longer take the TPWD reports for any worth. Much better info here or on Grangergang.com if fishing Lake Granger. I sometimes kayak fish so Texaskayakfisherman.com is a good resource also. I like that it has fresh and saltwater reports as well.

Channels are biting good on both Dunlap and Mcqueeney! Fish are in 10 to 15 feet of water holding by docks and tree overhangs. Caught six nice ones yesterday on Dunlap while fishing for Bluegill!
