I think I may have the bug that is going around on these forums. I have to get out on the water! I find myself reading forums and blogs about kayaking on my spare time at work. I have to get out on the water! I have a wilderness systems 115 that I am going to take out on the water Saturday morning. Probably going to put in at brockdale park and see how things go. My ride isn't as near as decked out as I want it to be but I guess that's part of the fun! Hopefully we run into some sand bass in the shallows. Reports I've been reading say about 14' of water. Really just looking to get the lines wet! I'd love to meet some of yall and see your setups if you're out there.

I put in at Brockdale in my kayak a few weeks ago and the sand bass were all over the place. I was catching from 17 feet of water to 5 feet. They were all small so I'm hoping that some of the bigger ones have moved up. They should have by now. I caught so many that I lost count. Follow the schools and you will catch a ton.

Thanks for the tips bankbassin! I'll let you know how big they are. Should I be slabbing? Normally I'd go for catfish but I went on a guided trip with Mark on texoma last weekend and I'm hooked on sand bass.

Yes, a small casting or minnow slab with a jig or two tied on a loop knot about a foot above the slab with get a ton of sandies and yellows out there... I always cut of one tip from the treble hooks, just to keep from damaging the fish's mouths (and get back in the water faster). I made a Sabiki rig like fshng84 described in his video post in the other Lavon thread. It worked fine, but I can tie a couple of loop knots in a lot less time so I just do that now. He has some really good info in that thread. There's also a lot of Lavon info in Carey Thorn's thread on the Whites/Hybrids/Striper forum on here. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/7735170/1/Lake_Lavon_Fishing_Guide_Repor

Just left Lavon at 3 pm today, watch the wind it will position the fish (fish the wind blown points) for best results. They were all stacked up just off the ramp at North Lavonia today mostly small fish, still fun to catch. I posted in the bank section in the community lakes post. I like to use crappie jigs in chartreuse and road runners in the same color. Chartreuse Bomber slabs were working as well. I use 30lb power pro braid to keep from breaking off its got 8lb diameter so it still casts well. Good luck!

Everybody does it slightly different but this is how I do my setup and it worked well for me. Just remember to check your line and retie all parts as needed as these little fish will tear up mono. This is one of many pictures that I have from when I went to Brockdale where I was hooking up with 3 sandies at a time. This is my "cheap" way of doing things and its a little faster. Plus I can change a jig out super fast if I need to.

I use the long slender type slab that looks like the bendable minnow Walmart sales... Lucas corner store carries them. Holographic with white trim or chartreuse work awesome.

I might be out there with my daughter tomorrow morning. If you see a guy that has a little girl on his kayak with him, swing by and say hi.

Dang I hope you have better luck than I. Sure was a windy day for a novice and my brother in law. But boy was it fun. Got out on the water and it already had white caps. Put in near the boat ramp slabbing in about 14' fow 45 yards out nothing. Did that to the point but it was hard to stay straight. Wasn't able to troll because I don't have pole holders. That'll come soon. Wind pushed us all the way to the trees on the south side. Ran into a school. Caught about 5 small ones then a big 15" sand bass. Sure was fun. Hope I shoot some dove tomorrow and I'll have a feast! Probably picked up a 6 pack of broken bottles - sure wish people wouldn't litter.
