Mabank High School fishing team is in need of several boat captains. This is a great opportunity to mentor a couple of high school kids. You would have 2 respectful student anglers in your boat. Fishing is their passion and without boat captains they will not be able to participate. Here is the break down- #1. Must pass a background check. #2. Must have $300,000 liability insurance on your boat(sounds expensive but it's not) #3. There are 5 tournaments maybe 6 or 7 if they make the championship. September, October, November, March, April, and possibly May and June. It's only 1 Saturday during those months. #4. Students will have their own equipment to fish with. You will not need to furnish anything(except a boat). #5. They will give you $20 each to help you with gas. #6 Boat requirements - at least 16ft, with a min. of 50hp motor, 2 live wells with aerator, and a trolling motor. There will be post like this popping up all season, unfortunately there will be a lot of kids looking for captains, there is no fees to pay. All you need is a background check through the school you are helping , 300,000 liability on the boat, and a couple of forms to sign. It is a great time, great kids and memories that they will have forever.

There are several members on here that volunteer their time as boat captains and I've heard nothing but good comments from them.

Ken, I cannot commit to all the tournaments (conflict with my club tournament and or committed family stuff). Is there a need for a fill in captains?

Also along that same though, it would be nice if there was some sort of central clearing house for background checks for all schools for boat captains. It would make it a lot easier to pick-up a captain at the last minute.

Allen Bass Fisher, yes, there is always a need for fill in captains. Most of the kids have a captain for all events, but there is also the kids that have a different captain for all their events.

The problem with the all in one place background checks are the cost. Like my squad for instance, the school pays for them. I even ran some through mine just so they could captain for other schools.

If you have a CHL, then we will let that count as well. If you have a school in mind that you would be willing to help out, then I would contact them to get the background check done. I can do a few extra rhrough our program, but I don't think they would allow me to do , say 20 extra checks.

I can ask another board member who is a School police officer if they can run them also.

I would not be able to committ to a full schedule because of work and my own tourney schedule, but could possibly fill in as a back up.

There are usually a lot on that side, Denton, Highland Park, Aledo , Denton. I will send a email out to ask.

i am a boat captain for scurry rosser and they r not fishing this year. i am available to be a captain

We have had a couple people contact RHBC about being captains as well. We are going to try and find them some help at our meeting this Thursday night, but if you are interested in helping out teams from Crandall or Rockwall, send me a PM and I will get you in contact with the parents. Ken, you do an awesome job!

The Keller ISD team is in the west division, and there are a couple teams still looking for a boat captain.


Keep in mind that there is a big bass pot for boat captains on these tournaments. It $20 to enter that and the winner gets half the pot, and the winning high school team gets half of it in their scholarship account.
