Hi guys, I haven't been on here in a long time. Just moved back to the Houston area after 5 years. Im getting frustrated on my lack of success (and knowledge) fishing lake conroe. I have a aluminum bass boat and have been targeting bass with very little luck. Any help on what is working there right now and where to fish would be greatly appreciated. Ive been fishing the very north part of the lake. My boat and I do not like the choppy water.

September is maybe the toughest month of the year on Conroe. It will get better in October. Right now it's pretty much a total grind out there.

Ok, that is what i was hoping. Ive heard that lake conroe is a good bass lake. Ill have to just continue on with soft plastics. Ive heard 5-10 feet is where i should be looking right now

We hadn't been fishing much in August but yesterday I managed to get past all those wakeboard boats to hit a spot I found on my Lowrance. In an hour, we caught five decent bass in 15ft of water on 6" motor oil worms. After an hour we decided to head home for dinner. My wife counted nineteen boats north of 1097 bridge and eight in Weir Creek. We saw 11 jetskis, too. Ridic. Labor Day is the last big weekend for the knuckleheads. Tomorrow will be much better.

Hopefully the nuts will be off the lake after last weekend making the south end more accessible to you. Spend some time learning how to fish docks. Learn to flip jigs, tx rigs and shaky heads under docks. Take your time and work a dock completely before giving up on it. Right now the fish aren't just hammering lures and the bite is very hard to detect, but watch your line and be ready to set a hook. They will pick it up and swim off and if you don't notice the line moving they will spit it out before you can set a hook. Once you pinpoint a pattern on where the fish are on the dock work those same areas and depths on other docks. I've been catching fish from as little as 1 foot of water and out to 10 feet. There are just about always fish under the docks in the shaded areas.. Learning how to flip is the key to getting to them. Good luck and hang in there until you figure them out.

Try the cove inside the bridge at Stow-A-Way Marina. Boat houses, stumps, laydowns. Shouldn't be a jet fleas either.

This time of the year you can have some good days hitting the sweet spots along the FM 1375 riprap. North of there are several good spots along the river channel where you have structure and cover in anywhere from 2' to 6', adjacent to deeper water. South of there are some areas of interesting structure, if you don't mind getting a little ways back in the timber. And there are a couple of spots toward the back of Caney Creek that used to be kind to me this time of the year. If you know what to look for you can find a lot of good areas on the north end.

Jim- I haven't figured out where to cross west to east going north towards 1375. There are no markers or buoys so where do you cut across? After Sandy Creek?

There was a front that came through 3 weeks ago and every since then it has been difficult to find a consistent pattern. The fish I had been on all summer vanished and the best thing I have found since is flippin docks just no size though

RHP, check out ConroeBass.com. There is a link in the upper left hand corner of the home page called "Boating Hazard Map". It will give you an idea where to cut across. Depending on the day of week, it shouldn't take too long for someone to come along that knows the way and you could follow them across. I know if you Cross too far south it gets shallow in a hurry

If you know how to access the historical photos on Google Earth, go back to 2011 when the lake was low. You'll see a shallow flat on the east side, just south of the Walker County line. Stay just above that. But you'll probably want to get someone who knows that area to show you the lineups from there on up; it can get pretty tricky.

Haven't fished Conroe in quite a while, but in September on the north end I used to go to some good big bass spots and work cover on structure, or at least cover near structure, in 8 or 9 feet or less. T-rigged critter baits or 7" ribbontail ringworms, or a 1/4 to 3/8 oz. jig and craw, should work around deeper docks. You'll have some good days, and you'll have some bad days. That's Conroe..............

Now if you really want to have some fun, take a kayak, a 6 or 7 weight fly rod, and some shrimp flies down to Matagorda Bay and hit the marsh.

RHP, same problem here - couldn't find a comfortable spot to cross the lake going north. Thought I'd follow the fella coming up behind me but turned out to be a jet ski. While idling there waiting I floated across something and it pushed my transducer out of whack - one minute I was in 114 feet of water the next in only a foot. So I turned around. Spent about six hours out today and never got a bump. Guess I'll try again later.

I'd try to cross north of Sandy Creek but only if my main depth finder was working correctly. And I'd do it slowly the first couple of times.
