I like doing both, but I'm using spinning if it's to actually catch a mess to eat.

I like "tournament bass" quality panfish gear though, as I have all light magnesium framed or carbon fiber spinning reels on high modulus graphite ultralite rods.

I personally think much of the choice depends upon bait/style/and location... 100% 3wt rod for the perches.
