How's the smallmouth on grapevine? Or is Bridgeport better for smallmouth?

Are you kidding? Fishing on GV has sucked the last several months, and I don't expect it to improve for several more months - that is if you are looking for anything except cat fish, and small bass! noidea

You have to fish for large mouth and you will catch a few of them mixed in. I've tried to only drop shot deep schools hoping to find big smallies bit caught nothing but 10in Kentucky's haha.

I caught a small one the other day in twin coves on a squarebill. I also caught at least 25 fish that morning. They are definitely biting. I've heard multiple guys who are catching 25+ fish every trip. In the evenings they're pushing up real shallow. They were jumping up on the bank Tuesday evening chasing bugs. We caught all our fish on a 1/4oz YM and shad colored squarebills.

Im not sure what DFW is talking about... GV has done well this summer. Been one of our most consistent three month stretches. Doing really well right now. We haven't been skunked once this year.

Smacking them is understatement! We caught around 80-100 Saturday morning! Now biggest was 2.5 and I can't tell you how many fish in the 8-10inch range we caught! On the bank... Anything u throw at them! Shad CB's and any type of finesse or trick worm or small creature bait! Literally everywhere we went!
As far as smallies I don't think you can actually target them! Dillard and Shipe are good at it but still think they just run into them in higher percentage areas! Just catch them mixed in! A tournament last spring I caught a 5lb largemouth and a 4lb smallie out of the same pile 3 casts apart!

I've never been able to the get the a-rig working at Grapevine like other lakes. I have tried it a bunch too and have had great success with it elsewhere.

I don't know that anyone is saying grapevine isn't fishing well. We are catching nice bass out of it right now. You have to weave through a lot of the little spots but there are bigones around them too.

for a small lake, right in the middle of the MetroMess, the lake fishes pretty good. It can be tough at times, but it's got a good population of fish, and that includes the smallies. There's some good areas to target for the smallies, always seem to be some weighed in at most of the tournaments.
