I am looking to buy a new fish finder. I currently have an Elite 5 DSI, didn't know much about fish finders when I bought it and have now learned I need more than just the downscan to find fish. I have been looking at the HDS 7 and Elite 7 and wondered which one was better other than just price. Also what transducer do I need? 83/200, 50/200 or the 83/200 with Structure Scan Bundle? I mainly fish central Texas lakes for whites and crappie. I am on a budget here but want to get a worthwhile fish finder that will do the job helping me find fish and have something that I can keep for years to come. Any help would be appreciated.

The Elite series do not support side scan. You have to step up to the HDS with the StructureScan bundle.
You may want to check out the HB Helix 7 SI which runs about $300 less.
