Used a lot of "non" game feathers as well as game feathers before. I need to shoot some crows so I can get some natural blue/black feathers for a few flies. wink

Haha idk what my buddy has against them but he could sit in a field and pop crows all day. A lot of iridescent colors in them for sure.

We have goats, and once in a while the crows will attack a new born, so I'm a little biased about them. wink

If you want to aggravate your dogs, save he wing tips and tie them to the end of a 4' leader on your flyrod. I had a Brittany that would go nuts when I went into the back yard to teach him how to point. laugh He would chase the sound since it buzzed as I move it around quickly, but he did finally learn how to point. banana

The rachis on most of the feathers on a dove are too stiff for most tying, altho you could probably use the barbs off of the primaries for wings on small winged wets.

I would think you could use Dove anywhere that you would use Starling feathers. Which would include small sized soft hackle patterns. One Dove skin would be a life time supply for most of us.

Have fun out there today. smile

I figured the neck would have some decent hackles iridescent colors in there as well. Got some birds just took a bit to do it. More than I like anyway oh well went fishing today caught a short tank of a bass that was around 7 pounds was biggest. And I caught a bunch of 8-10 in blue gill mixed bad in variety. One was one of the coolest hues I had ever seen and I left my phone in the truck. They were killing a big olive rubber leg stone fly.

Lol I will never put another bird on the grill again. I have played with my timing enough I have those birds down to a fine Science in the oven. People think you have to have a lot of birds to make a meal but when I get through with them three is enough for a meal and four you took that bite that you really regret it LOL.

I use the duck feathers on the ducks I kill.

Flank feathers(mallard, gadwall, wood duck), CDC on all birds, wing feathers on certain birds.

I will use any and all feathers if they work for what I am tying. I even use random feathers I find while hiking through the forest in the off-season, as well as feathers found in my yard.
