Looking into buying one. I current have a 2006 Ford Ranger which if I keep it will need new heads. I want to get a bigger camper (currently have a popup). Any sugestions on a good dealer ship in the Austin area would also be helpful.
Thanks

I traded my 06 F150 Lariat in two weeks ago on a 2015 F150 Lariat and I love mine. I got the heavy tow with the 355 LS and locking differential and 5L v8. Just ran the second tank of fuel through it and got 18 1/2 mpg. Now understand I drive from Garland to Irving round trip on 190 so it's a 70-75 mile commute every day. This one rides and drives well and has plenty of power so I'm extremely happy with it. Now gotta change my sig picture.

My recommendation would depend on what trailer you want.

Bought our last ford from Blue Bonnet Ford in New Braunfels. I live south of san Antonio, was about an hour drive for me but they had the best prices I could find.

Loved my 2012 with the 3.5L Eco.
Just have a hard time with the bodystyle change. I don't like it.

I don't know what kind of trailer yet, that will be a few years down the road. Possibly a 5th wheel or a travel trailer. Somewhere around a 28 - 30foot one.
Thanks for the replies

A properly equipped F150 will be sufficient for almost any travel trailer in the length you suggest. A fifth wheel will place more weight on the vehicle- ~20-25% versus 10-15% of a travel trailers weight. If you are one to want to adhere to the sticker payload capacity, you'll have a hard time staying under with most fifth wheels unless you opt for a max tow or HD payload optioned truck. For example, a typical F150 SCrew moderately optioned will have a payload in the 1500-1700 pound range. Most fifth wheels in the size range you list- even the ultralites, will have a loaded and ready to camp pin weight of at least 1400-1500 pounds. Some folks think the payload capacities of the F150 is limited mainly by the fact that they don't want them to show higher than the F250 which is limited to a GVWR of 10K, but I don't know any of them personally.

I'm with dustman. If I was considering a 5th wheel, I'd go f250 or maybe even an f350. A 30' trailer will likely weigh over 8k lbs loaded...even an ultra light. That's over 1600lbs off your payload. While technically, a HD MaxTow package may get you in range, they are hard to find...and even harder to find at a reasonable price. Be sure to look at the sticker inside the driver door.

Thanks for the replies When you do buy a trailer have them weigh it....mine I was told to be 4940 lbs...optioned out the weight was 5514......IMHO you would probably happier towing if your vehicle wasnt near your max towing rate....I am comfortable at about 65 % of what my truck s capable of towing.
