Fishing buddy Ed D and I pulled my boat over to Lake Tawakoni today for a fishing excursion away from Cedar Creek. We were on the water by 8:30 and fished til 6 PM. After a very slow start we managed to catch a total of 129 fish: 103 white bass, 2 legal stripers, 2 short hybrids, 3 cats, 5 drum, 13 keeper sized yellow bass and a carp. Details: Launched at the state park and started by checking out the long road bed protruding eastward from the power plant. Saw nothing worthwhile there, so went to Finger Point. Saw a lot of bait fish but couldn't catch a fish there after trying all 3 fingers. After about an hour and 20 minutes we gave up and headed toward Holiday Humps. Stopped at the point out from the big block building and found fish there. Fished it about an hour and left with 36 fish. Caught them with #4 Mepps in 17 to 19 fow. We went on to Holiday and fished it for a couple of hours catching about a dozen scattered around the humps never really finding a sizable concentration of fish. Left there about 2pm and headed for the structures just north of the dam on the east side. There we caught most of our fish parked in 11 fow and casting #2 and #3 Mepps out into 18 fow and reeling up the slope. The 2 stripers were caught there and went 21 and 27 inches and both were caught on #2 Mepps. Here are some pics: Ed with nice white: Yours truly with a good white: Yours truly with a 21 inch striper: Y0urs truly with the 27 inch striper:

Best, detailed report I have seen from tawak in a while! Thanks!
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Thanks for the reports Mr Chistian. Are you catching white bass and yellow bass at Tawakoni in comparable sizes to those from CC? they seem to be smaller than from years past, but then again I haven't caught many fish after the flood, I'm Just curious, thanks.
Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

White bass were comparable to Cedar Creek with largest going 15 1/4 inches and most in the 13 to 14 inch range. All the yellow bass we caught were keeper (= or > 8.5 inches) size, whereas we catch them 4 inches and up at Cedar Creek.

Thanks for the report Dennis! I have experienced much of the same at Tawakoni recently with very light concentrations of Whites and having to move about every 10 minutes a short distance to find the next group. Also, my past 4-5 trips I've found the Sand Bass bite really turning on about 10:30 AM for some reason. Not sure if it is the angle of the sun that creates better light refractions with the Mepps spinners or what..... However, my last trip I found the #2 working very well. #4 working well too but not as consistent as the #2. I also tried a #2 with a Chartruese/green blade which worked fabulous!
