Hey guys,

I'm unfortunately in the market for new fish finders. Both my Lowrance (hds) units have crapped out on me, and I've decided to finally replace them. I've heard a lot of buzz about the new Helix 7 units, but have never used HB before. How do they compare to Lowrance in terms of processing speed, and brightness? Should I look at Garmin? Thanks for the input.

Humminbird Helix series are Simpler, Clearer, Wider, Brighter, Faster.....

Coming soon will be the 9" 10" and 12" series and they will be net-workable and have the preset buttons we have come to love in the core models.

I do not yet have pricing points to share. They should be available late fall to early winter.

If you are buying something other than Humminbird you are going in the wrong direction.

Be sure to find a demo model and do some playing with it before you buy. HumminBird "maps" are ridiculous--maybe produced by a drunk kindergardener. Be prepared to buy another several hundred dollars worth of additional software to repair this flaw. Otherwise, HumminBird is a bit more intuitive to use than Lowrance.

My Substitute tournament partner is also in the market for new electronics.
His 2015 Skeeter came with HB, he's considering Lowrance because it's more intuitive.
I run HB units.

I run HB and find them simple to use, great mapping with Lakemaster. I will be getting a Helix 7 once they are on the market.

I've looked at the Helix 5 in stores, and like them. Hear the screen resolution will be much better on the 7. As far as the maps go, I'll probably invest in a chip anyway. Didn't think it was that bad though.

I have Gen 2 touch 9 at the console but thinking about getting the Helix 9 on the front. And maybe get a big Helix for console later.
