Has anyone fished this area recently. I am headed to that area this week and wanted to know about fishing either up or down stream. Probably try to hit it Monday or Tuesday.

I have never fish the Guadalupe State Park before. Visited the park a long time ago but did not fish it. Friends of mine who have fished the park reported nothing but small bass and Bluegill. Would be nice to get a current report. Let us know how you do.

So here is an update from the past two days.
I fished Cypressbend Park and River Acre Park Sunday evening and the bite was good. I caught some nice longear and a few LMB. There were a few tubers but the traffic was not bad.
Monday morning got up early and went drove up to Pedernales State Park. I arrived about 8:10 am, checked in at the office and drove down to the falls area. I saw lots of mid sized Rio Grande perch and some LMB. I caught several small longear and small bass. I didnt spend too much time there. I went back to the truck and drove to an area called Trammel crossing, between campsite 33 and 34. Walked down the road about 500 yards and entered the river. I fished down stream about 2-3 miles and caught lots of perch, a few small Guadalupe bass, but no Rios. The hike was beautiful and no one was around.
I left Pedernales State park and then drove down to Guadalupe State Park and arrived about 1:30 pm. I think I parked by campsite 86 and entered the river there. I caught lots of big perch and some mid sized bass but no Rios. There are areas to bank fish right next to the Bald cypress trees. The water is moving pretty good and the fish are right next to the roots in the water. I called it a day after that.
I had about a 3 hour window today to do some fishing before heading back to east Texas. I entered the Guadalupe at the River Acres Park about 7:15 am in hopes of catching the elusive Bull Rio. As a novice fly fisherman, my focus for the time being is catching different species while honing by casting skills. I often feel like a novice golf player who hits one or two good shots a round that keeps them coming back to play again. I make one or two perfect casts a morning, in between the hang ups, twisted line and falling in the water over my head. I caught lots of fish this morning. I would make some great casts today right next to the huge Bald Cypress roots. I knew the big bull Rio was just waiting to pounce on my fly. I caught about thirty fish and my watch said I had to go. I had about forty yards left and some of the best looking water of the morning. I made great cast after great cast. I was down to my last ten yards of bank when my fly hit in the perfect spot, my line jolted and the fight was on. I just knew it was the bull Rio I had been looking for for two days. I landed the fish and it was the largest Longear perch of the morning. The prettiest specimen I have caught in a long time. I was disappointed but then looked at my surrounding and thanked God for the morning and the opportunity to experience it!

Awesome Post "Hunter498" and super fish! I fished that area this morning and did very well.I also caught No Rios. This past May's flooding and the colder water being let out of Canyon Lake from May till July really messed up the Rio pattern for the summer!

I should have met up with you while I was there, banker. I did enjoy the big longear and the bass. I'm probably going to try again sometime later this month. We are headed to Belize for another fishing trip so it might be around October first!

Wonderful pictures. And I thought the stretch of the San Marcos that I fished was beautiful?

Hate to break it to you, but the last one is the long ear. The one's with the real long "ear" flaps are redbreast sunfish. I know. Seems counter-intuitive, but TPWD says so. That is a fishing trip I'm gonna duplicate next summer. (My trip this year was side-lined by an unexpected surgery.) I think I'll start making plans now, lol. Good trip and great photos! Thanks for sharing. Kirk

I think I knew it was a longear but maybe not. Is this a Guadalupe bass or a smally?

Looks like a smallie, but can't see the key indicators. The top jaw of a smallie never goes behind the eye, and the rear of the dorsal fin loops under, instead touching the back. The spotting on a Guadalupe is also usually darker and more distinct in clear water. Having said all of that, I've never caught a small mouth, so..... That is a beautiful fish. Kirk
