Noticed this weekend, like others have noted, that Lake Lewisville is full of 4-5" bass, both LM and Kentucky. Looking good for the next few years.

Question is... how old do you think these bass are and what caused the population explosion.

Was this a result of a late spawn after the lake filled up? If so, was it caused by above average survival rates due to the abundance of brush in the lake now (hiding places for the fry) or should I say it..... no fishermen to mess with the spawn.

Not trying to start anything. Just glad it happened and was wondering why.

4-5" would be this year's hatchlings. I'm no expert by any means, but I would think an abundance of newly introduced shoreline cover would provide this year's hatch with an extra measure of safety from predators and a greater chance of survival which might account for the numbers you're seeing.

Most likely from this year's spawn after the lake came up. Lots of late spawners this year all over.

Most lakes have that right now. Because of the water levels rising, bass were able to have a very successful spawn. Could be great things to come in the near future for most lakes.

Went to both lewisville and Ray Roberts this weekend. Both are loaded with small fish. They are everywhere.

i was sitting in the lake dallas cut on sunday morning and a giant school came through. we pulled several 4-5" LMB out of it on slabs. its was funny seeing a lmb come out of the water. I do not target them on LL so it caught me off guard. we all chuckled about it in the boat when we started pulling them up.

Back in the late 70's and early 80's we had an extreme drought like what we just went thru. Lake Bridgeport was down some 30+ feet. You could walk across Eagle Mountain Lake on the North End near Newark. We had a tropical storm move thru in October of 81 and filled most of the lakes. TPWD had stocked Bridgeport for two consecutive years, plus the fry of the spawn of 82 had so much growth to hide in, that by 1985 Bridgeport was like a new lake with all the flooded willows, I bought my first bass boat in 85 and the fishing was awesome at Bridgeport for about 3 years. It should be good everywhere in a couple of years, just be patient with the small fish as they grow. It's a cycle, that most all of the lakes go thru. The warm waters off of the Pacific Coast are indicators to the meteorologist to forecast a strong El Nino winter. My experiences with El Nino winters is good fishing through the winter as it doesn't get too cold and as long as it doesn't get too muddy fishing should be good. I can't explain why the fishing has been so tough this summer, or why the fish are not stacked up where they are normally, other than there is just so much new cover and so much bait fish, they are just so spread out.
