I have been thinking that I am overdue for a cable to break. I thought it was this weekend until I realized that the reason my boat did not want to turn right at slow speeds was 1. my 300lb neighbor, 2. full gas tank on his side, & 3. full bait tank on his side. I started to do an internet search and I noticed 2 cables that look like mine a the helm one is a Teleflex-old style and the other is a Teleflex-Morse. I have 10' cables on my boat and I have struggled to find a full replacement NFB in my length. Anyone know if the cables I am looking at will fit the old Morse helms? I know hydraulic would be the best option but not spending that kind of money when I have no problems with cable steering.

You need to get the numbers off of your cables and if the replacements do not say it replaces that cable number don`t buy them. Numbers will be about a foot away from the motor end of the cable.

I know exactly where the numbers are. I will check them. I know the length is on there but also know Morse is no longer in business so I was not sure the other number meant anything.

Spending 552.05 kind of money. Don`t know what HP you have but this Teleflex Baystar hydraulic steering kit works up to 150hp. http://www.lowcostboatingstore.com/

NEVER EVER use the baystar on a V6, don't care if it does say 150, it's not strong enough and can (and will) let go at very inappropriate times.

Pat I used to think the same thing but I have seen several 150`s with the Bay Star and when I asked about the steering, they claim its great. Any system can fail but the cable systems are the worst.

Gary,
This rant came from personal experience. Driving a shallow sport with 150 yamaha and baystar installed, went into a sweeping left turn, and it couldn't come out of it. Unit was full and clean, just didn't have the guts to hold that motor.

Now we've rigged quite a few on 115's and three cylinders, nary a problem. Just wouldn't trust it again on a V6
